Educational Programs

The Master of Science in Integrative Biomedical Informatics (MSIBI) program is designed to deliver advanced graduate education and hands-on training in the field of biomedical informatics. The curriculum aligns with nationally recognized competency frameworks to ensure students are equipped with the skills needed to lead and innovate in data-driven healthcare and research environments.

Program goals are informed by current standards in biomedical informatics education and emphasize the multidisciplinary nature of the field. Upon completing the program, graduates will be able to:

  1. Apply core concepts and tools from information science and computational technologies to solve real-world problems in biomedical informatics, tailored to their domain of focus.
  2. Integrate perspectives from the social, behavioral, legal, and organizational sciences to design, implement, and evaluate informatics-based health interventions and systems.
  3. Develop informed solutions to complex clinical and biomedical challenges using systems thinking and a range of biomedical data analysis methods.
  4. Collaborate across interdisciplinary teams by understanding the roles of healthcare professionals, researchers, and patients, while applying principles of effective teamwork and scientific collaboration.

More information about the MSIBI program is available on the program site. For questions, please contact program administrator Marina Tanjutco.

UPIBI also offers a Certificate in Integrative Biomedical Informatics—a four-course series tailored to clinicians and researchers seeking a foundational understanding of informatics. This certificate is designed for individuals without a formal informatics background and provides a broad overview of key areas such as general biomedical informatics, clinical informatics, and clinical research informatics.

Participants will gain practical insight into the history, current applications, and emerging trends in the field. These certificate courses also serve as the academic core of the MSIBI program, allowing for seamless transition should a student choose to pursue the full degree. Students accepted into the master’s track may apply certificate credits toward degree completion.
