UPIBI Director Co-Leads $4.4 Million Study on Obesity and Health Data Integration
Dr. Allison J. Carter, Director of UPIBI, will lead a major research initiative focused on using phenotype mining and electronic health record (EHR) data to investigate obesity and related health conditions in the state of Pennsylvania. The project is part of a four-year grant funded under the Commonwealth Health Data Innovation Initiative, a program designed to advance the use of big data in health research.
The research will involve developing new computational methods, tools, and software to integrate and analyze diverse biomedical data types—including clinical, imaging, genetic, and lab data—to uncover patterns and risk factors associated with obesity. The findings are intended to inform future strategies for research, public health, and precision care efforts across the region.
