Postdoctoral Fellow, TextMedAI Lab
The TextMedAI Lab (Text Mining for Medical Actionable Intelligence) is an interdisciplinary research group within the Department of Data Science and Digital Health at the Universal Platform for Integrative Biomedical Innovation (UPIBI). The lab is led by Researcher A, a faculty member in informatics and a core contributor to UPIBI’s applied AI initiatives.
Our mission is to design and implement advanced natural language processing (NLP) technologies that empower translational research and clinical innovation by extracting meaningful insights from unstructured healthcare data.
We are currently inviting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship. The ideal candidate will explore and build new NLP and AI models capable of identifying key variables and generating actionable knowledge from diverse sources, such as clinical documentation, transcribed dialogue, patient interactions, and decision-support platforms. Projects span several areas of healthcare including oncology, neurology, nutrition, dermatology, and cardiology.
As a researcher in the TextMedAI Lab, the postdoctoral fellow will primarily contribute to core NLP development. Collaborative opportunities may include working with data science teams within the UPIBI Clinical Informatics Group (CIG), which supports research across a wide range of health disciplines.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in computer science, biomedical informatics, computational linguistics, or a related discipline. Required skills include programming proficiency in Python or Java, familiarity with machine learning, NLP frameworks, ontology development, and semantic representations. Experience with neural network architectures is a plus. The appointment is for one year, with a possibility of extension based on performance.
To apply, please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and three representative publications to: contact@upibi.org
UPIBI is located in a vibrant metropolitan area and serves as a hub for innovation in digital health and biomedical science. The institution fosters a diverse, inclusive environment and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including those traditionally underrepresented in science and technology.
