Integrated Health Research Dataset (IHRD)

The Integrated Health Research Data (IHRD), formerly referred to as the Clinical Outcomes Research Archive (CORA), is a structured repository containing anonymized clinical records from UK general practices through January 12, 2021. The dataset includes information on 19,508,644 patients and over 1.4 billion encounter records from 832 clinics.

To request access to IHRD data, please follow these steps:

  1. Prepare your project for internal Scientific Review Committee (SRC) assessment using the appropriate protocol submission form and review guidelines.
  2. Submit your study to the institutional review board (IRB) through the official compliance portal.
  3. Once you receive SRC and IRB approvals, submit these alongside your project attestation and data specifications to the Clinical Research Informatics Core (CIC) and the Digital Academic Research Transformation (DART) unit using the IHRD request form.
  4. If you require compute and storage resources in the Limited Performance Computing (LPC) environment, a DART system engineer will contact you. If your project requires data extraction, a CIC data analyst will coordinate with you to finalize requirements and begin processing.

After submitting your request (and confirming compute or query needs, if applicable), the project will be reviewed within 7 business days.

Before submitting, applicants are encouraged to review any available IHRD reference materials to better inform their protocol and technical specifications.

Once your workspace is ready and the dataset query has been completed, your data will be provisioned within the LPC environment for analysis. For assistance with LPC access and computing operations, refer to internal documentation on topics including:

  • Account setup for external collaborators
  • Remote access to the LPC system
  • Navigation and workspace setup
  • IT and system support procedures
  • Using VPN and virtual desktop (VDI) access
